Darren K. Hipp
Special Assistant to the President
And Director of Presidential Correspondence
Dear Mr. Hipp:
Thank you for your August 14, 2006 letter about The Energy Policy Act of 2005. It was good to hear that additional funding was provided for "the Advanced Energy Initiative...to pursue promising technologies that will transform how we power our vehicles, businesses, and homes so that we can diversify our energy supply and become less dependent on foreign sources of energy."
However, what was lacking was any mention of hemp as an energy source. Hemp is an energy crop that can be processed into fuel oil that "has similar properties to no. 2 and no. 6 fuel oil." Hemp can be made into charcoal that "has nearly the same heating value in BTU as coal, with virtually no sulfur." HEMP FOR FUEL
It will only take about "6% of continental American land mass into cultivation of biomass fuel -- enough to replace our economy's dependence on fossil fuels..." Hemp "could supply all current demands for oil and gas." HEMP FOR FUEL
By using sulfur-free hemp charcoal, the issue you raised of "an emissions-free coal plant" is addressed. Because of the fuels that hemp can provide, it is important that hemp be included in our energy policy to "move beyond a petroleum-based economy, and work toward the end of our dependence on foreign oil."
